Light is an ESSENTIAL nutrient

Just as our cells require adequate nutrients from food to function properly, they also require light. We don't think about it this way, but light is an ESSENTIAL nutrient for healthy cells. The absence of very regular sun exposure (several hours most days on large portions of our bodies) leads to abnormal cell function.

There are 5 types of bioactive light which we need to be healthy: blue light, UV light, far infra-red light, near infra-red light and red light. The wavelengths in the red and infra-red range are strongly protective against the potentially harmful effects of UV radiation.

It's been suggested that there is a 1000-fold difference between the amount of light that we are exposed to compared with that of our ancestors. Consequently, most of us are grossly deficient in the bioactive wavelengths required for health.

Rectifying these light deficiencies can have profound effects on our health, in precisely the same way that remedying a severe nutrient deficiency can.

"Penetrating red light is possibly the fundamental anti-stress factor for all organisms."
Dr Raymond Peat

The missing link for health?

Over the past few decades, more than 5,000 studies have been published about red and near-infrared light therapy for a wide range of ailments.

Some of these include:

  • Mood imbalances (especially depression and anxiety), stress and nervous system dysregulation
  • Sleep disorders and fatigue
  • Acne, wrinkles, scarring, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, cellulite, rosacea, psoriasis, diminished collagen / elastin production, hair loss and baldness
  • Wound healing, post surgery recovery
  • Stroke/brain injury, neurological conditions like Alzheimers' and Parkinsons
  • Insulin resistance, weight gain, chronic inflammation
  • Acute and chronic pain, joint dysfunction, bone and tissue repair
  • Sports performance (improves muscle mass / strength / injury recovery)

How do light & PEMF therapies work?

Mitochondria are specialised structures found in every cell that essentially act as their power source. Mitochondrial dysfunction is one of the hallmarks of ageing and an underlying cause of disease in the body.

When the mitochondria are exposed to PEMF or light photons in a certain range, they produce energy more efficiently. Whether it's skin cells, glandular tissues or muscle cells — they all work better if mitochondria are producing more energy.

This is one reason the research supports the use of these therapies in such a diverse range of conditions.

Another mechanism is related to 'hormesis' - gentle positive stress that encourages adaptation (exercise is an example). This stimulates our mitochondria to grow bigger and stronger - and even multiply (mitochondrial biogenesis).

Blue light therapy

Blue light therapy is quickly gaining recognition for its unique benefits, especially when used in conjunction with red and near IR light therapy, as they can have a synergistic effect.

While most people have excessive and harmful amounts of blue light exposure to their eyes thanks to the overuse of phones and other devices, few of us are getting our requirements met by full body sun exposure.

Blue light is a potent mood booster and has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and potentially anti-parasitic properties.

Short bursts of full body exposure (during the midday hours) are all that we recommend.

Salt Therapy

Salt therapy or ‘halotherapy' has been around for millennia and dates back to ancient China, India, Egypt and Greece. It has been used as a cleansing practice in Ayurvedic medicine and Hippocrates recommended different forms of salt therapy as a treatment for respiratory and skin disorders.

Halotherapy involves the inhalation of fine aerosol particles of salt in a controlled environment. These particles, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, penetrate all layers of the respiratory tract.

There are now clinical trials demonstrating that salt therapy is a safe, natural treatment for relieving symptoms of sinusitis, bronchitis and asthma. Salt therapy is especially beneficial for anyone with symptoms of mould exposure. If you have mould in your home - salt is a wonderful antidote!

Zero Gravity Massage Chair

Recline into a truly weightless position for a relaxing massage. Developed by NASA scientists, the Zero Gravity position not only feels sensational, but it also reduces pressure on your back and neck, improves blood flow to your heart, increases lung expansion and enhances oxygen flow to your muscles.

Enjoy a full range of kneading, vibration, Shiatsu and lymphatic drainage massage techniques from your neck and shoulders, all the way down to your feet.

Triple reflexology foot rollers work in unison with air cushions that inflate alternately to compress and move your feet from side to side, ensuring every part of your foot is massaged for maximum rejuvenation.

Hypervibe: your vitamin 'G'

The Hypervibe offers whole body vibration, which exposes the body to increased gravity by applying varying degrees of G-force.

This is a NASA-developed technology which creates waves of movement through the soft tissues (in slow motion you can actually see the skin and muscles ripple like water) and dramatically increases the circulation of blood and lymph. Heat is quickly generated and muscles, joints and nerves are repeatedly activated, resulting in improved muscle tone and power, stronger bones, better agility and increased flexibility.

Whole body vibration has also been shown to boost human growth hormone and decrease cortisol.

Including this invigorating treatment before your sauna may assist with improved lymphatic waste removal.
